Here’s what you can expect from your Milford journey.

All aboard

Let your driver take care of you while you sit back and relax in a comfortable air-conditioned coach. Seats are strictly limited to 15 guests to allow for a personal experience. Though don’t be surprised if your shared experience results in a few new friends.

Take in the scenery as you work your way from Queenstown through Southland farmlands. Find hidden paths under the mountains before continuing on into Fiordland National Park. With something new to discover around every corner and with such a small group, you are guaranteed plenty of time to enjoy each and every stop.

A Kiwi Classic

It is in the UNESCO World Heritage-indexed Fiordland National Park that your group will break for a hearty Kiwi BBQ lunch (in Winter, it’s on the boat). While your driver cooks away, enjoy a stroll, take in the sights and fill your lungs with fresh air. This is a wonderful moment to get up close and personal with the alpine beech forest. Here you can spot native birds such as the Yellow-Crowned Kakariki. Keep an eye out for Australasian migratory birds who venture over in the warmer months.

This is a great opportunity to load up your camera with memories or relax in the midday sun and get to know some of your fellow travellers.

Sail away

After lunch your BBQ Bus tour will line up perfectly with our Milford Cruise. Absorb the other worldly wonders of the region from a comfortable, spacious boat. Take advantage of the large windows and look closely for seals, penguins and dolphins.

Fiordland has some of the world’s highest waterfalls. Pull on your ponchos as we bring you right up underneath them. Keep your eyes peeled for the Summit Kea, a high-flying alpine bird native to the region.

Your Milford Sound cruise will take around an hour and 45 minutes during which you can enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and fresh mountain water.

Up, up and away

It may be hard to imagine how you could possible fit any more into this wonderful experience. Yet, at this point in the tour, you have two options.

  1. You may choose to return with BBQ Bus for some quiet reflection on the road back to Queenstown, or
  2. You could take advantage of the return flight option!

Enjoy a 40 minute scenic flight from Milford Sound back to Queenstown. This luxurious flight is the perfect bookend to your Milford experience, allowing you to leave having taken in the region by land, sea and air.

Whichever way you choose to experience Milford Sound, one thing is for sure. The memories you make here n Fiordland will stay with you for a lifetime.
